Nigeria’s satellite communications network faces possible disruption after a Chinese contractor issued a 30-day ultimatum over unpaid operational fees.

China Great Wall Industry Corporation says Nigeria owes about $11.44 million for long-running satellite control services.

The dispute threatens the operations of NigComSat-1R, which supports broadcasting, internet connectivity, and security communications.

Officials at Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited say they are reviewing the warning as concerns grow about Nigeria’s ageing space infrastructure.

In a letter sent to the managing director of Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited and copied to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chinese state-owned aerospace firm China Great Wall Industry Corporation issued a 30-day ultimatum to settle outstanding payments for operational support of Nigeria’s communications satellite, NigComSat-1R.

According to the letter, the debt reached $11,442,335.89 as of 31 December 2025. The company said the amount relates to unpaid Telemetry, Tracking, and Command services provided from its ground control facility in Kashi.

The former South African president the late Pieter Willem Botha once said, "the gravest mistake that will never be pardoned is to allow the black man to rule." Today the evidence is there for all to see. Independent African countries are a laughing stock of the world 🌎🌍
