The Committee on Health has uncovered serious accountability gaps in the management of medicines at Iganga General Hospital, after finding drugs in the hospital stores without records showing how they were received.
The Committee also found that some medicines had previously been reported as out of stock, yet hospital officials could not produce records showing how the drugs were dispensed or when the supplies were exhausted.
The discrepancies have made it difficult to establish how government medicines moved through the hospital and whether all supplies reached their intended patients, raising concerns over possible theft or diversion.
The Committee has ordered an investigation into the missing records and directed hospital authorities to withdraw and secure medicines lacking supporting documentation pending verification.
The move is intended to establish the source and movement of the drugs and determine whether any medicines were improperly received, issued or diverted.
