How To Block Websites On Your Computer Without Any Software
There may be many reasons for which you may want to block websites permanently from your computer. Either
may be for making internet a safer place for your children or for getting away from time killing sites. There are lots of softwares available on web for blocking websites but they are very expensive.
So we are going to introduce you to a very simple trick with which you can block websites on your computer without any software.
1: How to block websites permanently without any software (for windows):
Step 1: Click on the Start buttonand then select Run. Now type in the following text in the run box.
notepad c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\et c\hosts
This command will open up the hosts file in notepad.
Step 2: Now go to the last line in that notepad file and press enter and type the following:
127.0.0.1 example1.com
127.0.0.1 example2.com
Replace example1.com and example2.com by the sites that you want to block and save the notepad file to block those sites. Following this procedure you can block permanently as many sites as you want.
Note: If you are a vista user then you will not be allowed to edit the hosts file without Administrator priviliges. In that case you will need to perform the following.
Click on the Start button, right click on Notepad and the select Run as administrator. Now once a notepad file appears open the hosts file which is located at following location.
c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\et c\hosts
Once you have opened the hosts file, edit it in the way as explained in the step 2. If editing hosts file is still not clear to you then check this detailed tutorial on how to edit hosts file in Windows Vista.
For unblocking the blocked websites open up your hosts file in notepad. Delete the inserted lines (in step 2)
