Position: Housekeeping Supervisor

Role Description

General Responsibilities

  • Supervision of the housekeeping and laundry operations to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Ensure the department is operated in accordance with the standards and procedures of the hotel and follow all guidelines.
  • Provides prompt ,courteous, and professional guest services.
  • Provide timely feedback to the supervisor or general manager.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Ensure standards of cleanliness , hygiene , and tidiness in all rooms, corridors, and public areas.
  • Assignment of rooms to housekeeping staff, instructing ,delegating, and controlling staff with responsibility.
  • Assist with training of employees and ensuring that they have tools, and equipment needed to effectively carry out their job duties.
  • Inspect all assigned rooms and public areas to ensure furnishings, equipment, linens are clean and in good repair.
  • Overseeing the ordering, delivery, count and storage of all linens and all items including bathroom items, equipment, cleaning material etc.
  • Ensure fouling, breakages or decommissions(whether or not caused by guests )are reported immediately to the duty manager for resolution and or charge.
  • Notify the management to the needs of housekeeping staff, materials or equipment as required.
  • Notify management when par levels for supplies and equipment are insufficient.
  • Maintain procedures for security of lost and found items.
Qualifications
  • Supervisory Skills and Communication
  • Experience in housekeeping and laundry
  • Customer Service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Knowledge of safety and hygiene standards
  • Experience in the hospitality industry is a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent

I once worked in a similar role and learned a lot about managing people and keeping standards high under pressure. Even though it’s based in the US, a lot of the methods work well anywhere. Got some good hacks there for training staff and organizing deep cleans properly.
 
When I was supervising housekeeping, one of the hardest parts was keeping track of all the little details, like making sure supplies never ran low and that nothing got missed during deep cleans. I mostly picked things up on the job and by seeing how other supervisors managed their teams. The key for me was always communication and being firm but fair with everyone, especially during busy times.

Sometimes I’d look up how other businesses kept organized, even outside the hospitality space. I saw that companies like Impact Restore in toronto really stress quick response and safety, which honestly made me rethink how I reacted to emergencies or unexpected messes on shift.
