Any serious nation invests heavily on grooming its future presidents. Its top institutions of higher learning produces 'presidential material'. All its intelligence agencies ensures that all potential presidents are scrutinized at an early stage. Moreover, such a country makes sure that it influences the grooming of presidents of countries that matters to them strategically. Thus it is not surprising that Benjamin William Mkapa was among those who were 'airlifted' to study in one of the prestigious university in the US. One wonders who is grooming the next president of Tanzania.

Makamba Jr

Compa, At what age doest that grooming begin, if age be the factor? And...eerr..apart from a few monarchies around the world, would you give an example of a democratic state that has had its leader groomed from an early point, age per say, in order to easy the ascension to the top. Mind you, am not talking about the Pakistanis kind of democracy, neither the Libyan nor Italian regimes!

Tender age, refer to Albert Arnold Gore, George Walker Bush, Barack Hussein Obama et al.; mind all these names are supposed to be followed by Jr as they share their dad's names and all those fathers were prominent people in the 'system' who (together) with that system groomed them to be at the very top one day!

One thing springs to mind... Bumbuli!! Good night Companero! lol

Steve, in Tanzania we don't have any serious mechanism for succession plan, hivyo we don't groom presidents ndio maana baadhi ya marais wetu wako hivi walivyo!.

Companero, i must stay that it all depends on who is in the vetting section (although i am tempted to say vetting sexion - due to its current situation)

Once tthis systems is porous or biased, crisis is bound to happen.... how did George bush Jr come into power?? did anyone see Gordon as a good leader in england?? maybe, he was a good administrator

so vetting/venting/vegging could be a factor - probably we have something in there.....
