Government has disbursed Shs10 billion to music promoters through the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC), fulfilling a pledge made by President Museveni during a meeting with entertainment industry stakeholders at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds last year.
The money, provided in form of a grant, has been disbursed to three music promoters’ Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (Saccos) and wired to their respective accounts.
The development was announced during the promoters’ Annual General Meeting held at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel in Ndeeba, Kampala, where beneficiaries thanked the President and the Microfinance Support Centre for the support, saying it would help strengthen their businesses and create more opportunities in the music industry.
Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abitex and chairman of Uganda Music Promoters Sacco, confirmed that the money had been received and pledged to use it to develop the entertainment industry.
