Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama has commissioned the restored 2.7-kilometre Katonga transport link, reopening the route to motorists following a Shs191 billion government investment.

The project, undertaken by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) between July 2024 and October 2026, also covers the rehabilitation of the Lwera and Kalandazi road sections. The bridge is designed to last 120 years.

During the commissioning, Byamukama urged contractors to accelerate work on the Mpigi–Nakawuka–Nateete road to ease congestion at Busega, reduce traffic and shorten travel time.

However, delays in compensating people affected by the road project have slowed progress on some sections.

With traffic resuming across Katonga, motorists have been urged to observe traffic rules and drive responsibly to prevent accidents and save lives.
