On Saturday, July 25, 2026, Uganda held its inaugural National Cleaning Day, a civic initiative aimed at promoting public health, sanitation, and environmental responsibility.
The programme was announced by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja following Cabinet approval in August 2025, and it was championed by President Yoweri Museveni, who emphasized the importance of collective action in keeping Uganda clean.
The official launch was presided over by Vice President Jessica Alupo, representing the President at the national event. The exercise, conducted under the theme “A Clean Uganda is Everybody’s Responsibility,” took place from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Claim:
A post circulating on social media, shared by Kiryowa Kiwanuka, claims that General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, personally participated in Uganda’s National Cleaning Day held on Saturday, July 25, 2026. The post includes a photo of Muhoozi sweeping outdoors, presented as evidence of his involvement in the nationwide exercise.
Findings:
JamiiCheck found out that the image circulating with the claim was not from Uganda’s National Cleaning Day in 2026. Using Google Lens reverse image search, the photo was traced back to 2023, when General Muhoozi Kainerugaba launched the Bulunji Bwansi (Keep the Country Clean) campaign in Entebbe.
Travel conflict: On the same weekend of the 2026 National Cleaning Day, General Muhoozi was reported to be on an official trip to Rwanda, making his participation in the Ugandan exercise highly unlikely.
Verdict: FALSE
The claim that General Muhoozi took part in Uganda National Cleaning Day in 2026 is false. The image circulated by Kiryowa Kiwanuka is from 2023, not from the 2026 event. This is a case of misattribution and misleading reuse of old content to suggest present involvement.
