Uganda's national women's 3x3 basketball team, the Gazelles, have made history after winning the country's first ever Commonwealth Games silver medal in women's 3x3 basketball.
The Gazelles finished as runners-up after falling 21-11 to Australia in the gold medal match at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Despite the defeat in the final, Uganda's campaign will be remembered as one of the country's greatest achievements in basketball. The Gazelles produced a series of outstanding performances throughout the tournament, defeating several opponents on their way to the final and guaranteeing Uganda a historic podium finish.
Australia proved too strong in the championship game, pulling away to claim the gold medal, while Uganda settled for silver after an impressive run to the final.
The silver medal marks a major milestone for Ugandan basketball, representing the nation's first ever Commonwealth Games medal in the women's 3x3 event. It also adds to Uganda's growing medal tally at the Glasgow Games, where the country's athletes have continued to deliver historic performances across multiple disciplines.
The Gazelles' achievement is expected to boost the profile of basketball in Uganda and inspire a new generation of players, particularly young women, to pursue the sport at the highest level.
