ABOUT THE KAS SCHOLARSHIP:
The Konrad- Adenauer -Stiftung (KAS) Media Africa Scholarships are awarded to talented young African students interested to pursue a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Successful scholars will commence studies at the beginning of February 2020. Therefore, chosen applicants should plan to travel to South Africa in late January 2020.
ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES:
Angola, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Burkina Faso, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Gabon, Cape Verde, CAR, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Ghana, Malawi, Mauritania, Mozambique, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Niger, Guinea-Bissau, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Somali, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Mauritius, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Togo, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGE:
The KAS scholarship will fund the following items;
University tuition fees
Travel costs
Monthly living stipend
Accommodation costs
Study materials grant paid once
Study visa fees and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) assessment fees reimbursement
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Candidates for the KAS scholarships must meet the stipulated criteria;
Be under 30 years’ old
Currently working as a journalist
Fluency in English language
Have at least 3 years of work experience
Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism or pass an entrance exam
Commit to working with with KAS Media Africa while pursuing studies. Therefore, scholars will write regular narrative reports while studying.
OTHER REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
Motivation letter
Recent and updated Curriculum Vitae
Submit 2 published writing or broadcast clips samples
2 letters of nomination or reference by a senior journalist, publisher or academic
HOW TO APPLY:
You should submit your applications via emailed to researchertwo.johannesburg@kas.de. Please, indicated “KAS scholarship” in the subject heading of your email.
You should be available in early August for an interview by skype or telephone and also be willing to sit an entry exam.
Successful applicants will receive the decision by the end of August 2019.
Selected applicants will then be invited to complete and submit an online student application, necessary required documentation and the SAQA assessment.
Please, note that the student visa application is your responsibility and you should start processing the visa end of October 2019.
