First National Bank (FNB) has been listed as the largest online bank in South Africa by Effective Measure, which compares the online audiences of South African banks FNB attracted 2.1 million unique monthly visitors, followed by ABSA, ranked second with 1.5 million visitors while Standard Bank came third with 1.4 million. FNB is the fastest growing bank in the country, with 1.7 million new accounts created over the last year, but still trailing both ABSA and Standard Bank in client base. FNB has a total of 7.6 million clients, compared to ABSA with 12.2 million and Standard Bank with 10.5 million clients. FNB launched its banking App on Apple, BlackBerry and Android devices in July 2012, as the first retail banking App in South Africa. About 230 000 active clients are currently using the App, with new users growing by over 30 000 per month, according to the bank. Over R 6 billion ($722m) has been transacted using the App. The FNB Banking App early this month won the MTN App of the year awards in the following categories: Best iOS (Apple) App, Best BlackBerry App, Best Android App and the best Overall App.
