Mapeera House is a building in Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. The skyscraper is located on Plot 44/46, Kampala Road, the main business street in Kampala's central business district, where it intersects with Burton Street.

Claim

Through various social media platforms, users shared a picture of Mapeera House alleging that floods occurred there on March 6, 2026. See the posts here, and here.

Verdict: Misleading

An online investigation revealed that the claim is not true and that the image appears to have been edited using digital software.

Using open-source tools such as Google Reverse Image Search, we found that the same image was posted online in 2020, and at that time there were no floods surrounding the building.

One user on X posted the photo on October 23, 2020, with the caption: “Images: Mapeera House in Kampala, Uganda.” Another user on Facebook posted it on September 14, 2020, with the caption:

"Mapeera House—Designed to look like a boat, this was a challenging project because of its design and location at the junction of two very busy roads. ROKO likes challenges, and this building has turned out to be a beautiful landmark of Kampala. The Centenary Bank Headquarters was completed in 2012."

Furthermore, additional checks found no evidence confirming that floods surrounded Mapeera House on March 6, 2026. This suggests that the circulating image was likely edited using AI or other digital manipulation tools.
