FIFA rules out giving funds to ZFA ABDALLAH MSUYA Daily News; Saturday,July 26, 2008 @00:05 The world soccer governing body, FIFA, has clarified that the Zanzibar Football Association (ZFA) has no right on the funds disbursed to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) annually to develop the sport. This was said in Dar es Salaam yesterday by the Fifa director of football development for Africa, Ashford Mamelody in the wake of reports that ZFA have been complaining bitterly that TFF have denied them of their share from the funds.. The two institutions have been at loggerheads over the use of the 250,000 US dollars (about 260m/-) given to all football associations worldwide to promote the sport under the Goal Project. "Let me make it very clear that in Tanzania we recognize TFF and it's the only organ we are working with. The funds from FIFA can only be managed by TFF. " Mamelody added that FIFA was aware that TFF has been developing football all over the country including Zanzibar. "We regard Zanzibar as part of the Union Republic of Tanzania -- the same as Arusha or any other region within the country, therefore their share is within football development programmes run by TFF in all Tanzania regions". He however reminded TFF that Zanzibar should also get the support like any region in Tanzania Mainland. Mamelody who is in the country to assess Fifa's football development projects, commended the TFF for properly running the sport to the required standards. "We are very happy with the way football is run in Tanzania and the development the country has so far achieved. We're also grateful with the way TFF use Fifa funds for soccer development." He expressed Fifa's commitment to continue its support on football development projects in the country, saying the focus will now be on youth football. Mamelody was optimistic that Tanzania was on the right track on its soccer develpment, adding that if not 2010, Tanzania would play in the next Africa Nations Cup and the World Cup tournaments.
