Tanzania's top afro pop music icon, Nasibu Abdul, popularly known by his stage name as Diamond Platnumz this afternoon arrived from South Africa to a rousing welcome, as hundreds of fans lined up the road to the airport to welcome him.

Believably Tanzania's most decorated musician, Diamond was in South Africa at the CHANNEL O Music Awards where he scooped three straight awards in the categories of Most Gifted New Comer, Most Gifted Afropop, and Most Gifted East through his ‘Number One' hit, after beating Kenyan Sauti Sol's ‘Nshike', Navio's ‘No Holding Back', Eddy Kenzo's ‘Sitya Loss' and another Kenyan Elani's ‘KooKoo'.

Upon his arrival at the Julius Nyerere International Airport on Tuesday, fans moved in to mob him before he was hoisted shoulder-high and carried off to rapturous cheers.His music exploits have not started with CHANNEL O Music Awards alone.

On May 3, 2014, Diamond Platnumz set a new record at the Tanzania Music Awards by winning 7 awards, including Best Male Writer, Best Male Artist, Best Song Writer and Best Male Entertainer of the Year.

The previous record was set by 20%, a recording artist who walked away with 5 awards at the 2011 Tanzania Music Awards. Prior to 20%'s accomplishments, Diamond held the record for winning 3 awards at the 2010 Tanzania music awards.

Diamond is considered influential among his fans, and is said to be the most loved and decorated Tanzanian artist at the moment. He was believed to be the highest selling Tanzanian artist of ringtones by mobile phone companies in 2013, as well as being among the artists earning the highest income in the African Great Lakes region's music industry.

The Pan-African Channel O Africa Music Video Awards are organised by Channel O television station.

They were first held in 2003 under the name Reel Music Video Awards and since 2005 they have been held annually. The winners are voted by Channel O's viewers across the continent.
