The family of journalist Eria Jengo, who has reportedly been missing since September 10, has appealed to authorities, including President Yoweri Museveni, to help establish his whereabouts.

Jengo, who works with Baba TV, reportedly went missing nearly two weeks ago, leaving his family uncertain about whether he is alive or dead.

His mother, Katalina Nalubanjwa, says she last spoke to him on the day of his disappearance and that he appeared to be well. She later learnt from a Baba TV worker that Jengo could not be traced.

“I am requesting the President to help me find my son. Whether he is dead or alive, please help me know where he is,” she said.
Nalubanjwa says Jengo had been supporting her and his brother, making his disappearance an additional burden on the family.

His father, Ssalongo Saka Kopriano, said the family has no idea what could have happened to him. He appealed to anyone holding Jengo to release him if he is alive or provide information about his whereabouts if he is dead, so that the family can give him a proper burial.

Jengo’s brother, Micheal Yiga, described his disappearance as deeply worrying, saying the family has been left with a “missing piece.” He added that Jengo had never told the family about receiving threats or facing any problems before he went missing.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has joined efforts to establish Jengo’s whereabouts.
UJA Secretary General Emmanuel Kibuka said the association has taken the matter to the Uganda Human Rights Commission seeking assistance.

According to Kibuka, a complaint was also filed with police after Jengo disappeared. His colleague at Baba TV, Andrew Mayanja, reportedly filed a case of kidnapping and received a reference number.

However, Kibuka said the family and Jengo’s colleagues have not received satisfactory updates from police despite repeated attempts to follow up.

“If Jengo committed any offence, he should be subjected to the law and due process rather than being unlawfully detained or kidnapped,” Kibuka said.

The family and UJA are now appealing to authorities and anyone with information to help establish Jengo’s whereabouts and provide answers to his family.
