Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has been rushed to hospital after suffering injuries just hours into his ambitious charity walk from Nairobi to Mombasa, a journey covering more than 480 kilometres.
The walk, which is part of a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting vulnerable communities, began with high energy but quickly turned challenging after the first day.
Omondi revealed that he developed injuries in the ligaments of his left leg and hip after completing over 68 kilometres on the opening day of the journey.
The comedian had set off from Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday, February 10, with the first stretch taking him from Nairobi towards Machakos.
The long distance covered within a short time is believed to have contributed to the injuries, forcing him to seek medical attention.
Despite the physical setback, Eric Omondi maintained that he remains determined to complete the journey. Speaking while receiving treatment, he said the injuries would not stop him from pursuing the mission behind the walk.
He expressed strong resolve, stating that he was prepared to continue the journey even if it meant moving forward slowly or enduring discomfort, emphasizing that the goal of reaching Mombasa remains unchanged.
According to the comedian, the injury may have been caused by the excitement and adrenaline that came with the start of the challenge.
He explained that the enthusiasm of launching the walk possibly pushed his body beyond its limits on the first day, leading to strain on his muscles and ligaments.
The 486-kilometre journey, which has been named the “Walk of Love,” is scheduled to last five days and is expected to end on Saturday, February 14, at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa.
