A meeting to fast track the East African Political federation has opened in Kampala.

The Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Ministers of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi are attending the meeting that opened on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Kampala Government said the meeting is a follow-up to the Summit that was held at the close of August by the Presidents of Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda in Mombasa.
The summit was also attended by the South Sudan Foreign Affairs minister as well as the Burundi minister of Public Works and Equipment from Burundi.

According to a statement from the ministry of Foreign Affairs, the August 28, 2013 summit in Mombasa had reviewed progress of implementation of the decisions, two months earlier, on the deeper regional integration.

The June 24th to 25th meet in Entebbe according to the statement decided on the development of the railway, petroleum products, crude oil pipeline, oil refinery, and power generation and transmission. The others that they agreed on include development of a single tourist visa, single customs territory and fast trucking of the political federation.

Uganda's Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Amb. James Mugume said that there is need for open discussion to provide concrete proposals for implementation of the federation.

Where is Tanzania again.... is this an EAC Integration or Differentiation?

No need to worry...Sisi tujipange kivyetu.......waendelee...ni ukweli usiopingika...they will need us at some point....waache wa rush

Kagame kenyatta m7 na wanao wasupport wote kihistoria wana matatizo kibao. Mikono yao damu zimemwagika. Ni afadhari ya hayawani. Wana lengo gani na leo ni sept 11?. Magaidi wakubwa

.....this EAC (without TZ) foreign ministers' meeting is a follow up to the recently held technical meeting in Mombasa....Cha kuchekesa ni kumwona juzi Membe akijigamba eti wamewaandika wenzao barua....tene eti kuwaomba wawaambie walichokuwa wanaongea kwenye hii mikutano.....this is pure nonsense by Membe.....yaani uambiwe wenzako wanachozungumza!!wakati kila kitu kinawekwa public...yaani Membe anaomba aambiwe kinachozungumzwa kwenye mikutano hii wakati hata EAC joint communique (without TZ)imewekwa public......

..TZ is already behind on the EAC issue...tupende tusipende.....Nimeona hata Rwanda sasa wameilazimisha TZ kushusha kodi ya magari ya Rwanda yanayoingia TZ.....baada ya Rwanda kupandisha ya kwao hadi $500.....Tz tumebaki kuombaomba tu...kwenye kila issue.....with all the ----'n massive resorces we have.....

Hakuna federation ya maana baina ya hizo nchi bila Tanznaia kuwepo. Hao jamaa hawawezi kukaa kwa amani kwa muda mrefu, let them go, sie watz tupo na SADC yetu inatosha. Ngoja tuwaache waende wakaone moto wake. Just have a look eti Kenya Uganda Rwanda na Burundi wawe na political federation? Kenya na Ugand ajuzi juzi tu hapa walikuw awanagombania kaeneo kadogo sana ambacho kila nchi inasema kake. Rwand ana Burundi wale wale hutu and tutsi. They don't have land. Tanzania ina ardhi kubwa na yenye rutuba nzuri. Sasa wanamendea resources za south sudan. Thank you God Tanzania is finally out of this intergration ya kinafiki.

Napenda hizi movie maana zinaifanya Tz kuamka!!Maana tunatia aibu sisi ni matajiri kuliko wote combined iweje sisi ndo maskini kuliko wote?

In my opinion, emphasizing on a political federation without strong economic integration in the EAC region (which does not currently exist or is at a very infancy stage) is simply building a 'roof' without any 'foundation' or 'walls'. This is a fact which I bet the 'triple K group' (Kaguta, Kagame and Kenyatta) and their close allies Nkurunzinza (and more recently Salva Killi of Southern Sudan) know it very well. In fact, one does not need to be a 'first class economist' or a seasoned political scientist to discern this. Not even the European Union, the best known 'model' of regional integration in the world has moved to this stage, leave alone thinking of doing so. So, the big question is: what is in the minds of these 'neighbours' who want to fast track the EAC political ferederation? for whose benefit and how? Given the political history of their nations, and their involvement in the political dispensations of their countries (as individuals), Tanzanians have all the reasons to doubt and object to be part of this move. At least I'm one of those.
