DRC, Ituri: More than 40 dead in a rebel attack in Irumu

Armed men who are said to be ADF rebels made an incursion into the Masini village of Badibongo Siya groupement in Irumu territory, in Ituri province on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

If the toll remained controversial throughout the day, several sources draw a very heavy toll of more than 40 people massacred.

The provincial deputy Jackson Ausse, elected from Irumu, affirms that the civilians killed are in majority pygmies.

“I confirm the massacres of 46 pygmies by armed men. They were killed with a machete. It was ADF who did that, ” said Jackson Ausse Afingoto.

Christophe Munyanderu, his coordinator, indicates that several survivors who escaped from the hands of the attackers arrived in Komanda on Thursday evening and confirmed the death of their relatives.
