The Minister of Finance, Honorable Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba (MP), has thanked Denmark for contributing to the development of Tanzania in various economic and social fields, as well as the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project from Morogoro to Makutupora in Singida region.

Dr. Nchemba made these remarks during a meeting with the Ambassador of Denmark to Tanzania, Honorable Mette Dissing-Spandet, at his office in Dodoma, where they discussed several cooperation matters.

He mentioned that the relationship between Tanzania and Denmark has reached 60 years, and during this period, the two countries have had a good diplomatic and economic relationship. Recently, they have been implementing projects for which Denmark provided assistance to Tanzania amounting to approximately 2 billion Danish Krone, equivalent to 646 billion Tanzanian shillings.

Furthermore, Dr. Nchemba said that Denmark, through its Development Agency (DANIDA), has donated more than 103 billion Tanzanian shillings derived from the revenue of its share investment in CRDB Bank, which have been used to support the health sector through the Health Fund.

He also praised Denmark for reversing its decision to close its embassy in the country, stating that this move will further strengthen cooperation for the benefit of citizens of both sides.

Dr. Nchemba said Tanzania is ready to collaborate with Denmark through its new cooperation program following the reversal of its decision to close its embassy in the country, where Denmark plans to increase the level of funding and direct those funds to areas that will grow the economy, including energy, improving tax funds, agriculture, education, health, as well as supporting the private sector.

Dr. Nchemba also took the opportunity to welcome investors from Denmark to invest their capital in the country, including in the financial sector, and benefit from the incentives provided by the Government after amending various laws, but also to benefit from the reliable market available in the SADC countries and the East African Community.

He also requested Denmark, through its Agency dealing with Insurance and Guarantees (Danish Export Credit Agency), to participate in the construction of the SGR project for the remaining segments due to the importance of the project in boosting trade and improving the livelihoods of those who will use the railway, as well as increasing the national income.

On her part, the Ambassador of Denmark to Tanzania, Honorable Mette Dissing-Spandet, said that her country congratulates the great economic and social achievements currently ongoing and that it is ready to provide the necessary cooperation to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries. Ambassador Spandet said her country is ready to collaborate with Tanzania in the area of renewable energy, as well as gas, and help grow the private sector to contribute to the country's development.

She mentioned that the Minister for International Development Cooperation, Hon. Dan Jorgensen, is expected to make an official working visit to the country at the beginning of April this year, where he will use the visit to discuss with the Government the priority areas that the two countries will focus on in this new cooperation program.
