What we know
•Mesach Semakula is a veteran Ugandan musician, popularly known as Sir or Papa, with a career spanning several decades.
•Held a Press conference on Thursday 29 October ahead of his upcoming Concert Celebrating @50 Years of Greatness, scheduled for 13 November 2026.
• During the press conference, he recounted how rumours about his HIV status started in 2006 after his leg became swollen due to an illness.
He explained that people continued spreading the rumours, saying, “Up to now, people still say that I’m HIV positive.”
•The circulating clip cuts out the earlier explanation and starts with the words, “Up to now, I’m HIV positive,” removing the context of his statement.
•In the full recording, he does not make a declaration that he is living with HIV/AIDS.
