Claim

A Social media post claims that former Parliament Director of Communications and Public Affairs Chris Obore threatened to commit suicide from Luzira Prison after the Inspector General of Government (IGG) ordered his interdiction. The post further alleges that Obore said the disputed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds belonged to former Speaker Anita Annet Among and that he was being selectively prosecuted while she remained free.

Chris Obore and several other senior Parliament officials are facing charges of embezzlement, causing financial loss and money laundering over the alleged misuse of more than Shs27 billion in parliamentary funds,Read on Jamiiforums.ug

•Obore and his co-accused were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court and remanded to Luzira Prison since 02 of July.They most recently appeared in court on 27th of July, where they applied for bail, and the case was adjourned to 10 August 2026.Read here.

•On 31 July 2026, the IGG Aisha Naluzze ordered the interdiction of seven senior Parliament officials, including Obore, pending the conclusion of their criminal cases.

• It's true that Former Speaker Anita Annet Among has not been charged or remanded in this case but remains under separate investigations for alleged corruption, illicit enrichment and money laundering .

However, no credible media outlet, court record or official statement confirms that Obore threatened suicide or made the statements attributed to him. Likewise, his legal team has not publicly stated that he made such remarks while on remand.
