Claims circulating online alleged that the Cambodian government had ordered all African nationals, including citizens of Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon, and Uganda, to leave the country by May 31, 2026, or face arrest and prosecution under immigration laws.
The viral reports further claimed that Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration (GDI) had announced the expiration of an immigration waiver previously granted to African nationals and instructed all affected foreigners to depart the country before the deadline.
However, a review of official statements and Cambodian media reports shows that the claim is false.

GDI later issued an official clarification dismissing the reports as completely untrue. According to the department, websites including Campaigner Online and News Ghana had published misleading information under the headline: “Cambodia Orders Africans with Expired Immigration Waivers to Leave by May 31, 2026.”
In its statement, the GDI categorically denied issuing any order directing Africans to leave Cambodia. The department emphasized that the information circulating online was fabricated and urged both Cambodian citizens and the international community to rely only on official government sources for immigration-related information.
Authorities also advised the public to visit the official immigration website or contact the department’s hotline for accurate updates and clarification.
