We are in full knowledge Japanese economy will take a financial hit closer to the tune of $3bill for postponing the summer Olympics by another year, and that cost is not the whole story given the cost of preparation and now recuperating from the Coronavirus nightmare.
But realism was accommodated after Canada and Australia pulled out indicating more nations would have followed suit in the boycott and the risks of competing in empty stadia diluted the losses of the inevitable postponement
So we congratulate the Japanese government for taking health matters serious above the urgency of balancing the balance sheets
