Four Chinese couples tied the knot at the SGR's Nairobi terminus on Saturday bringing operations to a halt.

Overjoyed workers, who witnessed the ceremonies, said they were moved by the confessions of love.

The Standard Gauge Railway is being constructed by China Roads and Bridges Corporation and the May 20 date was chosen for its similar pronunciation to 'I love you' in Chinese.

Li Bosheng said he met is wife on a train ride in Hunan Province, China.

"I met her three years ago when we exchanged numbers. That brief meeting and my bravery have resulted into us tying the nuptials," Bosheng told Xinhua news.

The 26-year-old public relations officer with CRBC got married to Jiao Yang, a graduate student in China.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will commission the first phase of the Standard Gauge Railway in Mombasa on May 31.

After the launch, the Chinese government will provide special security while building the capacity of Kenyans who will take over.

On May 15, Uhuru secured an additional $3.59 billion from China to extend SGR from Naivasha to Kisumu.
