UNICEF is inviting technology start-ups developing solutions with the potential to improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children to apply for funding from its recently launched Innovation Fund.

More about the UNICEF Innovation Fund

The Innovation Fund allows UNICEF to quickly assess, fund and scale open-source solutions that have been developed by companies in new and emerging markets. The fund supports the generation of open source, public goods that address the most pressing challenges facing children. It brings together models of financing and methodologies used by Venture Capital funds and the principles of UNICEF'S award winning Innovation Unit.

To qualify for funding, projects must be open source and have a working prototype. They can involve developing a new technology, or expanding or improving an already existing one. The fund focuses its investments on three portfolio areas:
• Products for youth under 25 to address a range of needs including learning and youth participation;
• Real-time information for decision-making; and
• Infrastructure to increase access to services and information, including connectivity, power, finance, sensors and transport.

Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:
• Relevance of solution for children and young people, alignment with priority portfolios and potential for application at global scale
• Novelty of project and alignment with Innovation Principles and desired stage of development
• Suitability of the team and key personnel to implement the project
• Project budget and financing

Details on the application process are available on the fund’s website at www.unicefinnovationfund.org.
Deadline for application: Submissions of Expressions of Interest must be received no later than 26 February 2016.

Kindly share this exciting news to your local networks of Entrepreneurs, Incubators and maker spaces, Accelerators, Academic institutions, and Current or desired UNICEF partners from the corporate, start-up and public sectors.
