Du jour concerns in my environment are way beyond an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. There's crippling desertification of my environment, people are dying of brutal drought, we use leaded gasoline and asbestos is still legal, think I'm gonna give a hoot about a horsefly dying in the Gulf of Mexico? Heck, I want the flies to die, shoot. Care begins at home, you care first for what concerns you and your environment. You survey people from the country of the spill and you're not gonna get a 100% rate of concern. Think I will?

So, for registering my feelings that a spill in the Gulf of Mexico doesn't concern me that diagnoses "stupid" in your book. As an environmentally-minded person you should have taken my standpoint as a finding, that there are some people who just don't care about such issues and coolly inquire as to why.That's how you raise awareness, not by name-calling just because I thought the subject matter didn't matter to me. Be civil.

I'm confronting environmental calamities more devastating than a spill killing horseflies in the Gulf of Mexico.

Thanks god the spill is almost over. It has taken the first world 87 days to find a temporary solution to the spill. Imagine if this was to happen in our third world. How long would it have taken?
This is a big lesson. Remember the burning tank in Tazama Pipelines Kigamboni which lasted for 7 days before extinguishing the fire back in the eve of 31st Dec. 1989?
Remember the burning tank in the Tanesco ubungo plant which ended by bravery of the two fire officers who stormed in the fire and closed the leaking tank manholes before the bizare spread to the neighbourhood?
Remember what a disaster which killed over 50 people in Tukuyu when a tanker overturned and spill over the fuel it was carrying?
Remember what happenned recently in eastern Congo DRC when a tanker overturned and spill over the fuel it was loaded with? over 70 people lost their lives in that poor village.
Environmentalists come over and start educating people that Petroleum fuel is as dangerous and it can only be compared with the fires of Hell we so hear. Responsible government machinery should come up and inspect all oil handling firms to ensure safety of our environment is as protected as money in the central bank lest what happened in the gulf of Mexico can befall us if we are not careful. g9t all. :A S-eek:

My father used to lament about auto engineers who didn't know how to change the oil in their own car. I've likewise worked with engineers that don't know how to assemble a bbq, but are supposed to be qualified to work on satellites. Thus, it doesn't surprise me that there are a bunch of brilliant people in the oil industry who didn't know how to build a valve to stop the oil flow. They're too self important and impressed with their own credentials to "lower" themselves to listen to the people who work with the hardware day in and day out and understand how to make things that work. The valve that they are currently using is elementary and a no-brainer and should have, and could have been built much sooner. Oh well...

BP stops oil leak in Gulf of Mexico for first time since April


Aside from the cost to BP, which has spent more than $3bn (£2bn) on the cleanup, seen its share price plummet and had to set aside $20bn, the spill has caused widespread economic harm across the Gulf. Vast areas of water remain closed to fishing and there has been a rash of hotel cancellations during the school holiday season.

"This body has lost a lot of blood," Norm Coleman, a former Republican senator told CNN. "This is good news but that doesn't mean that the pressure is off."

Yesterday's success followed days of uncertainty about how the sealing cap would perform, and whether it could stop the oil without blowing a new hole in the well.

The administration put a 24-hour hold on BP's plans while it reviewed the risks of the operation.
