Prof Emmanuel Mutisya has been appointed as the Board Chairperson of Global e-Schools and Communities Initiatives (GESCI).
Prof Emmanuel Mutisya has been appointed the Board Chairperson of Global e-Schools and Communities Initiatives (GESCI), an international education body.
In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Prof Mutisya will spearhead the organisation's growth in the education and skills development sub-sector.
He will take over from Brendan Tuohy, an Irish national who had led the institution for more than 10 years.
"I see opportunities for growth moving forward if we continue to align GESCI's focus areas with the needs of the youth of today and tomorrow and the labour market needs of the future. We have the responsibility to come up with local solutions to our problems through quality education and skills," he noted as he took over.

Prof Mutisya is a long-term consultant and program co-ordinator in the education and skills development sector at the African Development Bank and a Visiting Professor at the University of Nairobi.
His expertise spans international development policy, project management, design of skills development programs, policy strategic planning, youth entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, higher education and research, and sustainability science.
"Prof. Mutisya offers a track record of designing, formulating, implementing, and monitoring portfolios at country, regional and global level," read a statement by GESCI.
GESCI is an international non-profit organisation founded on the recommendation of the United Nations Task Force on Information Communication Technology (ICT).
It was established in 2003 at the first World Summit on the information society and runs programs on ICT and Stem education, digital skills, and youth entrepreneurship, leadership for sustainable development and teacher professional development among others.
"We work with governments and partners in providing strategic supports to develop and implement models of good ICT-based practice for high-quality education and training and to build effective leadership abilities in ICT and Knowledge Society development among Government officials across the developing world," the organisation's website explains.
The institution is present in Bolivia, India, and many countries in Africa including Morocco, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Côte d'Ivoire, Namibia, India, Rwanda, Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Africa.
In 2011, GESCI signed a Host Country Agreement with the Government of Kenya when it transferred its headquarters from Ireland to Nairobi, Kenya, where it now resides as a full international organisation.
