FROM DUBAI WITH MORE MADNESS.
Dear Forum mates,
I came back home from Dubai with more ASAS. I had a working trip, I only had 2 days to shop for family and the entire 2 days were committed to sampling the ASAS madness.
Since I had indicated to the forum members that I was going, I had very crazy requests from the ASAS fraternity. For instance, 99% of members (names witheld) asked me to go and bring them items using my money so that they refund me when I come back. So Wakilongo is a millionaire? I have another acquaintance whom I am yet to meet who sent me for a 180cm KU dish. I do not know how I would carry that. But that is the madness I am talking about. But I discovered one thing: That you can be in Dubai and actually not be able to shop for everything that you want, because Dubai is as big as Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu and Nakuru all combined. To get one item, you take a train to an entirely new section and walk for an hour before you locate the place and item. Some places are not accessible by train so you have to take a taxi.
For ASAS lovers, the districts that should concern you should be just 2: Deira (Sabkha Street actually has shops dedicated to satelllite equipment) and Sharja district, industrial area community. This is where stuff is found. I had no one to advise me, so you can imagine that by the time I got to know these areas, I was late into my second day. The good thing with Dubai is that shops open at 10 am, close at 2pm and then open again at 4pm till midnight. Deira is served by a train network while Sharja is not.
So for those who sent me for a Samson LNB (Even without giving me money), I spent the first morning looking for this item. Then it hit me very late that I am on a wild goose chase. these items are not found in Dubai. Actually, every satellite shop in Dubai is branded. We have EuroStar, Stong, Tiger etc and Samson is nowhere. Now you can imagine me walking into a Stong showroom in Deira looking for a Samson LNB! Aibu nayo?
However, as much as it was embarrassing, it was a learning experience. I got to learn so much! I bought a Panorama Mini FTA Decoder. It is the size of the small beeping Satellite finders found along luthuli, but it is very effective. Pictures to come soon. An ASAS fellow member sent me for a Satlink WS 6906. It is an advanced satellite finder that comes inbuilt with a TV screen. This eliminates the trouble of carrying your whole TV on the roof as it shows you the signal strength just like a TV would, and it can even act as a pocket TV. I leave this topic to the madman himself to come and say how much it cost and how much such an equivalent item would go for along Luthuli Avenue.
Which brings me to the most serious question of exploitation on this site. For a long time, fellow ASAS members have been exploited from the enlighted ASAS members from the coastal region. Although this site is not supposed to be profit-making, it is supposed to be a community of satellite diehards who would want to put their hobby to test. However, some individuals have found a profit niche in the ASAS affected members.
My visit to Dubai has shown me that Al Jazeera cards are less than 11k per anum, and that I can buy anything cheaply and have a friend ship it via Sahiliya and I only pick the item from Eastleigh. My visit to Dubai will revolutionalize this site, from that of sharing satellite knowledge to that of acquiring ASAS material cheaply from Dubai. Coastal cartels, be warned. Granted, our hobby is quite expensive but it should be devoid of exploitation.
In short, ASAS members, those who know me and have dealt with me will tell you that I do not make profits from friends. My visit to Dubai has seen me establish a network which will provide ASAS services almost at no cost. Renewal of cards to bringing in of equipment will be as cheap as 1-2-3.
If you:
1. Want to renew your JSC/ADMC card on an experimental basis......
2. Want a specific equipment from Dubai, be it ASAS equipment or any other item (Even a car/ engine/ washing machines etc....).....
I want to be of help to you. I have come back knowing that I have been screwed and I want to put an end to this Man Eat Man Business.

1)if in dish setting the dish must always face east or west direction.
2) then why is the dstv dish set facing any direction
3) why do the many sat dishes in tv station set facing almost all direction?

Great to hear that. What quality have you achieved on the 11617 V 30000 TP on 8Ft? This is the weakest TP. If you are hitting over 62% for this TP then you must be getting all TPs stable.

Building on my previous setup done on 18[SUP]th[/SUP] November 2013 (see post No.2988 on Page 150; https://www.jamiiforums.com/tech-ga...african-satellite-world-and-sat-gear-150.html ), over the weekend I completed fabricating a firm robotic LNB arm to combine:
(i) SES 5East; Eutelsat 7West A; and Eutelsat 7 East (plus Europe Beam) on 130Cm;
(ii) Intelsat 20 Ku (68.5 East); NSS12 (57.0East); and Yahsat-1A (52.5 East) on 90Cm.
The extra arm, made of 1-inch square tube is detachable. Due to added weight on the LNB arm for the 130Cm dish, I added an adjustable steel support between bottom of dish and dish mast. A bolt and two nuts at one end of this support is used to fine-tune the 7 East Europe beam LNB.
I found that the Quad Eurostar QP4 Gold (0.3dB) LNB has 3-5% higher gain than the Inverto Ultra Black single when fitted to receive the 7 East Europe Beam. Once this LNB is tuned to maximum quality, an extra Stargold LNB is added on top to receive best gain on the SES5 East (71% quality). Finally, a robotic arm is fitted on top and adjusted to receive Eutelsat 7 West A. All the TPs on this Satellite (7West A) are stable with quality of 62 - 67% with close to 600 channels. None of the TPs on Nile201 will pop up.
With this stable LNB support that enables advanced fine tuning, even the weak TP 11554H30000 (CBS Reality, Discovery Channel, Nickeldeon, Duck TV, Discovery Science, etc.) is stable at a quality of 62%. Others are 11471H30000 (Disney Jnr) at 60%; 10845V30000 (BBC Entertainment etc.) at 63%; 10804V29900 (BBC Knowledge) at 66%; 10928H30000 (CNN etc.) at 60%; 11513H29900 (E-Europe, MTV, etc.) at 60%; 11637H30000 (MGM Channel, etc.) at 59%; 11596H30000 (Eurosport News etc.) at 59-60%. Only the following TPs are scratching at quality of 54%: 11534V30000 (Animal Planet); 11617V30000; and 11678H30000. These tests have been done in slightly cloudy weather at 10Pm.
For the 90Cm setup, the TPs on Intelsat 68.5 East are stable at 57-60% quality; Yahsat-1A stable at 63% quality; and TPs on NSS12 stable at 62-63% quality. Using Inverto Ultra black LNBs can add 5% extra quality on each of the three satellites on the 90Cm setup.
There is also an extra 65Cm offset dish that is downloading channels on Amos 5 at 80% quality. I will try to transfer its LNB to the arm of the 130Cm, so as to have the 7 LNBs set up on only 2 dishes. All the 7 LNBs have been connected to a Eurostar 8-by-1 DiSEqC switch which is feeding the SRT4922 with goodies.
Well, with this ASAS attack, thats how I cerebrated my countrys 50 years of independence over the weekend. As an observation, satisfying FTA madness is not cheap given the investment one has to make to purchase decoders, dishes, high gain LNBs and extra fabrication of LNB arms / LNBs.
This ASAS disease is chronic!

I am back with one more question. using a 6 ft dish, srt 4922 I am unable to receive these channels in intelsat 906 : AGAPE, ITV (benin), TV NAMIBIA, UBC. I am at Sultan Hamud. kindly help mi guys.
No channel is going to be stable on this sat on 6ft. Others are stable on 8ft except UBCI am back with one more question. using a 6 ft dish, srt 4922 I am unable to receive these channels in intelsat 906 : AGAPE, ITV (benin), TV NAMIBIA, UBC. I am at Sultan Hamud. kindly help mi guys.
Agape tv left this satellite back in 2011 and shifted to Eutelsat 36. TBN Namibia is receivable with a bit of fine-tuning of your lnb, though the signal is often unstable. ITV Benin and UBC, both on West Hemi beam have proved difficult to receive even with an 8' pf dish.
