In a move aimed at bringing more investments to Tanzania and hence invite countrymen to enter into joint ventures with their Mexican counterparts, the central American country will for the first time take part in the forthcoming Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).
Speaking in Dar es Salaam recently, the newly appointed honorary consul of Mexico to Tanzania, Reza Saboor, said more than 100 Mexican businessmen will show case commodities at the fair.
He said the companies will be from the sectors of tourism, power, hotel, marine, medicine and information communication technology.
“We have already discussed the matter with officials of the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) on our plan to fully participate at the fair,” he said.
Explaining further he said the economy of Mexico remains in the path of growth.
Our economy grew at the rate of 5 percent in 2010, creating more than 700,000 jobs last year.
According to Mexico’s tourism secretary Gloria Guevara Manzo, tourism has become the key activity for the country's development.
“This has been so because of what it means in the generation of jobs, in the secotrs contribution to the GDP as well as in foreign exchange earnings,” she said.
She said it is so also because of what it represents socially and culturally as it generates and reinforces a sense of belonging and pride to promote the country’s roots and culture and natural diversity. Mexico is by its tourism activity, one of the ten most important countries worldwide, she said, adding that the efforts of all those who integrate the value chain have enabled them to stay at that level for many years.
“We have the potential and the assets to grow and to be among the top five, achieving this is a joint and coordinated effort of all actors comprising the sector,” she added.
She noted last year, the Mexican President instructed her to work in a sector strategic plan that was inclusive of all those involved in tourism to define priorities and work together.
Commenting on the new consulate the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Bernard Membe, said the Tanzanian government would strengthen cooperation with Mexico to explore potential areas for investment in the East African country particularly in mining and energy. "Trade and investment between the two countries is minimal. There is a need for both countries to encourage and promote growth in these important sectors in our relations," he said.
