IN SUMMARY

  • One lie for example, says that the governments of Tanzania and Rwanda or their leaders, have been exchanging ugly rhetoric since President Jakaya Kikwete advised his counterparts in Rwanda, Uganda and the DRC to talk to their enemies rather than fighting endless wars.

Almost everybody knows Adolf Hitler, but not everyone knows everything that this murderous man said during his life, especially the observations and propaganda he unleashed under his rhetoric stratagem.

In one of his writings he argues: "If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself."

The teaching is found in Chapter 6 of Volume 1 of Hitler's autobiographical manifesto, Mein Kempf, which translates "My Struggle" written in 1925 but published in 1939. Hitler titled the chapter "War Propaganda".

Hitler was not the first to speak these words as the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution who played a key role in the creation of communist Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin, before his death in 1924 once noted: "A lie told often enough becomes the truth." It is the question of perception.

This interesting art of converting lies into truth is popular among politicians, activists, religious leaders, and unfortunately journalists as well, especially when there is a goal to be reached. Often a lie is told deliberately, but things may get worse when a lie is told not because of anything but ignorance or much worse, irresponsibility.

Currently, East Africa is witnessing the spread of lies not seen before conducted by those who are determined to deceive others and those who are irresponsible. These people care less about what philosophers teach us, that truth is the conformity between what is being said and what exists.

One lie for example, says that the governments of Tanzania and Rwanda or their leaders, have been exchanging ugly rhetoric since President Jakaya Kikwete advised his counterparts in Rwanda, Uganda and the DRC to talk to their enemies rather than fighting endless wars. Some people made it as if Kikwete had advised only Rwanda, which wasn't the case.

Yes, it is true that various people have been talking too much about this issue, but it is not true that the Tanzanian government has been doing so. The only statements related to that are two so far: first, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Bernard Membe, responded kindly to those demanding that Kikwete apologises, saying President cannot apologise for telling the truth.

The second time was when Kikwete assured Tanzanians in his monthly speech that Tanzania harbours no ill intent towards Rwanda, which is the fact, frankly. Nowhere else has anyone from his government ever said anything else! The President's statement that Tanzanian troops are ready to defend the country was a normal thing that any Commander-in-Chief can say when officiating on heroes' day.

When Kikwete gave 14 days to illegal migrants residing in northwestern Tanzania to leave he didn't name a single country, and consequently people who identified themselves as Ugandans, Burundians, Congolese and Rwandans, left Tanzania.
However, some people created a deception that Kikwete had ordered the expulsion of Rwandans. Not true! Noticeably, other countries are not throwing words at Tanzania.

Another deception going on in East Africa says that Tanzania is dragging its feet on the East African dream to attain political federation under the so-called fast track process.

None of these propagandists care to speak the truth that all five member states agreed on concrete stages and further insisted that, to move to the next stage the previous stage has to be fully implemented and assessed diligently.

As we speak even the first stage of the Customs Union has not been fully implemented. Tanzania didn't object to move to the second stage known as the Common Market, which again, apart from demanding Tanzania's land and free movement of people regardless of issues like security, none of the member states has done enough to attain it.

The third stage, Monetary Union, has already been forced into initial processes by other four member states without any assessment of the previous two, and Tanzania didn't waste time to caution about this irresponsible move, which won't help the Community.

Well, we all know that the United Republic of Tanzania knows better than any other member state about this animal called "unification" because we have lived it, and we are the actual founder of another successful regional body, the South African Development Community (SADC), a much older body than the current East African Community (EAC).

Additionally, let us not forget that Tanzania was the only force behind the creation of the first East African Community, and history attests to that. Thus, when Tanzania reminds other member states in the Community to watch their steps, it knows what it is talking about. You can follow the advice or leave it but do not play Hitler's game.

Hello East Africans, we do not need to deceive each other day and night! Let us build trust among ourselves and build this Community perfectly, not harshly just to satisfy temporal needs.

Apperance is a very deceptive construct. What a thing appears to be and what it actually is may be miles apart. Most foreigner have romantic view of Tanzania, the reality is beneath the apparent 'romance' festers political strife, grand corruption, unprecedented poverty, social injustice. Tanzania is deceptively serene no simple matter of apperance versus reality.

what do u mean with that word? and what is ur opinion on other 4 member countries

Still another propaganda I could say that, how come those 3 countries have decided to discuss their matter themselves without the rest member of EAC including us as Tanzanians what was that all about. Doesn't tell in EAC theres another new community?? I thought since we share our community and same regional interests and borders we should be bond together with no secret between us otherwise that's another propaganda so if we mean what we agreed in EAC community to move step by step then we shouldn't push one member by propaganda, otherwise there's one part interest.

Talk of lies and whatever but the following points are true:

When the EAC started, Tanzania said that their economy was down and they needed to move their goods at minimal duties to Kenya for five years while Kenya goods continued to get into Tanzania at normal duty rates. When the 5 years were over Tanzania reneged on the reduction of duties for Kenya goods.

Tanzania continued to disagree on almost every point of EAC integration (EVERY POINT!) with statements like we are not ready, Tanzania will not accept this or that, all these despite having been there at the time of agreement on time schedules for everything. (give an example of anything that Tanzania has accepted regarding anything except only the formation of EAC)

Even when road tolls and duty rates were agreed upon, Tanzania went ahead and hiked their's leading to other countries to do the same.

Have you noticed how all trucks that cross the borders into and out of Tanzania with or without goods are TANZANIA TRUCKS ONLY? What's the reason? Do you know? Do you think that other EAC countries do not have trucks? (only the Kenyan BOC lorry will be found entering Tanzania carrying oxygen gas)

Do you know why you will not find any - yes ANY! non Tanzania car on Tanzania roads and towns? (except the border towns) yet you will find Tanzanian vehicles in all EAC towns. Do you think that the other countries do not have cars?

Do you know why OVER 90% of all bus passengers going to and from other EAC countries to Tanzania are Tanzania citizens? Do you think that other country's citizens do not like to travel?

All that am trying to say (and you can confirm this with every business person who does business with Tanzania) is that the EAC as far as Tanzania is concerned was never acceptable from the word go and the point that am ACTUALLY SAYING is that Tanzania has never been interested in any kind of integration and should bless others and let them go.

Tanzania will not be missed in the EAC. If you called a referendum in all EAC countries today 80% of Tanzanians will say NO to integration and 99% of all other countries will say NO to Tanzania being in the integration. Not that anybody hates Tanzania or Tanzanians hate other people no! no! no! it is just the way it was, the way it is, and the way it will always be. A situation that can not be changed. To Tanzania I say team am with SADC and GO! GO! GO! To Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, Uganda I say team up with Somalia, Ethiopia and South Sudan and GO! GO! GO! and GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kenya, uganda, and rwanda are more concerned about the economic take-off of their individual countries, rather than the perception tanzania is having of Kenya sabotaging its vision to become the most dominant economic player in the east african region.

Tanzania has many failed projects

1) Dar rapid transport (A concept aped from brazil)
2) Statoil gas production that was proposed as early as 2007. (no infrastructure has been setup for gas exploration)
3) mtwara gas project was met with violent demonstrations after it emerged that livelihoods were to be interfered with

just to name but a few. I presume they were flagship projetcs under the tanzanian vision 2025. the main reason for failing projects is corruption. a tyrannical Tz can only boast of a huge land mass.

..I believe Tanzania and Kenya need each other.

..among East African countries Tanzania is number 2 importer of Kenyan goods.

..Kenya is ranked as number 2 among foreign investors in Tanzania.

..u can see that Tanzanians put money in Kenyans pockets, and Kenyan investors provide jobs to Tanzanians.

..Watanzania hatutaki POLITICAL INTEGRATION/FEDERATION na nchi yoyote.

..In Tanzania we believe that SADC and EAC should join forces and form a bigger trading block. That is why we remain committed to both communities.

Who needs the xenophobic South Africans? Do you know how many Tanzanians were done in and how many had to flee from there to save there souls? The further I can go from the South the better I feel for the disease (xenophobia) starts from there and diminishes as you head north.

I didn't know there was anybody who is against Tanzania's trade relations with SADC/ South Africa. Who is complaining and for what?

hypocrisy comes in different colours

I didn't know there was anybody who is against Tanzania's trade relations with SADC/ South Africa. Who is complaining and for what?

..that is expressed by most Kenyans who write about EAC.

..they would always question Tz commitment to EAC vs SADC.

for now I do not think kenya is interested in its commitment with tanzania, TZ wants to apply slow intergration in stages, kenya wants a full integration, there are conflicts of interests. For now it is better for each to depart ways and commit themselves to other things
