I liked this story, i thought its the best to share with you.

Try to read it.

I woke up, took a shower and drove to the university. Another semester had started and I had to attend to the first lecture of the new course. The lecture hall was full of students and almost all seats were taken. I found a vacant seat and quickly took it.

The lecturer said that it was a project course and told us to make groups of three students for the project. I looked to the right and next to me there was a guy whom I had met before. That guy always reminded me of Stifler. To be honest, I didn't want to do the assignment with him, as he had caused me problems many times, but there was a really beautiful lady sitting next to him. Of course, it was clear that there were more chances that the US would have nuked the moon than this guy pulling it off to attract her. If you watch and listen to him carefully, you end up with the impression that he has been attacked by hyenas, hit twice by a truck and feel like calling 112 (911).

On the left side, there was an older woman. The lecturer had told us that there were some students from an open university and that we should be nice to them, and I promptly saw she was not from our university. We talked about the project and decided to make a group of four. During the break, she told me that, last year, she didn't manage to pass the course, so she will try again. The course was related to advanced neural networks and it was a master degree course. She said it would be nice if we help her and I said I’ll help her as much as I can.

Later we got an email from our lecturer and he told us it was not allowed to make groups of four students. The older woman came to the next lecture and that asshole directly told her to find another group. Unfortunately, some people have problems with courtesy. It is not nice to tell anyone to leave the group, if you have to say it, at least, say politely. She tried to find some groups, but failed. I knew she won't find other groups, so I told her later that we could do the project together. I had to say good bye to another beautiful lady. I have to admit that it wasn't an easy decision, I liked another beautiful lady and I had a great chance to know her.

After many meetings, we finished the project and sent it to the lecturer. In the last meeting, I told her I had difficulties to find a summer job. More specifically, I had difficulties to find a computer science internship summer job. I was living in a small town and there weren't many jobs available and neither had I any previous experience. I told her that the majority of the companies had not replied to my job applications. She advised me to keep doing it even, as one would finally answer someday. At the end of the last meeting, she thanked me for helping her and took her leave, before leaving she said "see you".

Two weeks later, I got an email from a company saying they had received my job application and decided to call me for a job interview. I tried to find information about the company and prepared for the interview.

I appeared for the interview and the first question I was asked was about how much I actually knew about them and I did my best in my response. Then they questioned me about my experience and interests. In the end, they asked me where I had learned about the open job position. As a matter of fact, I had no idea of even the time I had sent them my CV (LinkedIn profile), so I told them I didn't remember well. They thanked me and asked me to give them permission for a security check (a.k.a background check), to which I agreed. A little while later the interview was over and I went home.

I was so stressed, I thought I failed it and I was certain that I would never get that job. I didn't realize that they actually accepted me when they asked my permission for a background check. They called me three days later and told me I could start in May. That would be the first time I would be working as a software engineer and I was most excited. I couldn't describe what I felt like.

The first day, I was given a laptop and a security ID. I was told that I would earn almost €3k month + free lunch + bonus. Well, that was not a software engineer intern salary, absolutely not, at least not in my country. I didn't even have a master degree yet. I thought maybe it was just a normal salary for their interns or there could be some other reasons. The second day, I was told about the company’s internal rules and work system. The third day, I did my first push (Git).

The fourth day, I arrived at work and parked the car. I noticed one BMW car, whose registration number and color were somehow known to me, as it was unique. I was certain I had seen this car before, but I didn't know exactly where. One usually remembers unique cars. Anyway, I went inside the building and opened my laptop. An hour before lunch time, I heard someone saying "Hi, how is it going?". What, no way!! That lady I had helped in university was in front of my eyes. I said “hi, wow, do you also work here?”, she said “yes, I work here.”. I was in shock. She had told me that she is working for a software company, but nothing else.

Later, we went to have lunch together. I told her that I really don't know what to say, I still can't believe this. The company had an agreement with the open university (company), it was responsible to provide education for the company and she was sent to our university because it would be closed for a few months. I also found out that I actually had never applied for the company, they never even offer summer jobs for interns (in their unit). I remembered they asked me that in the interview and it was the reason why I couldn't remember (they tested me). She told me that she really understood me, because she had been in a similar situation when she was young and that I had helped her so much, she tried to convince her manager to accept me, but she wasn't sure. She had sent my LinkedIn profile to her manager and convinced him to make an exception by accepting an intern to their unit. When I asked her, why didn't she tell me, she said: I actually said "see you", didn't you realize it.

It was that moment which totally changed my life. Attitude is one of the most important things. That moment, I learnt that my attitude was right and I should keep it, as the lady said. Always help other people. (This happened many years ago)
