VACANCY POSITION: DIRECTOR
IHI is an autonomous, non-for-profit organization registered in Tanzania dealing with health research (Ifakara Health Institute (IHI)). The mission of IHI is: To develop and sustain a district-based health research and resource centre capable of generating new knowledge and relevant information for public health policy and actions.
The Director is supported by a dedicated management team comprised of administrators and scientists who head the key units and stations in Ifakara, Bagamoyo, Dar es Salaam, Rufiji, Mtwara and Kigoma.
The Director reports to the Board of Trustees for policy direction, strategic and financial planning.
We seek an individual with the ability, commitment, and enthusiasm to provide leadership to pursue the mission and its underlying strategic plan as well IHI's commitment to interdisciplinary research and its translation into public health policy and action.
Individual who will recommend improvements in the technical processes and procedures to improve the Institute's effectiveness and productivity.
We seek candidates with distinguished records of academic and managerial experience, and evidence of excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Candidates must have an earned PhD (the combination of MD, PhD and further postgraduate degree are an advantage) in the field of public health, epidemiology and clinical epidemiology or an equivalent scholarly record.
Preference will be given to Tanzanian candidates and with experience and a track record in attracting and administering funded research projects and those with a strong record of commitment to training and mentoring staff and students.
The Search Committee will accept applications and nominations until 30th November 2008.
Screening of candidates will begin immediately. An application should include a letter describing relevant experiences and interest in the position, curriculum vitae, examples of the relevant expertise and experience, and the names of at least three referees.
