The acting director, defense public information in the ministry of defense and veteran affairs, Colonel Chris Magezi has dismissed claims that the roadblocks mounted all over Kampala on February 9, are part of a large scale man hunt for major opposition figure and president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.

According to Magezi, the roadblocks are part of a collaborative operation between the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), to restore sanity on Ugandan roads, ensure full compliance with traffic regulations by all motorists, impound unregistered or numberless vehicles and curb the illegal use of sirens.

In a post on X, Magezi dismissed the claims that the roadblocks were mounted in a move to hunt for Bobi Wine who has been on the run since the UPDF allegedly broke into Bobi Wine’s home and he fled. It is alleged that officers broke into Bobi Wine’s home and terrorised Bobi Wine’s wife Barbra Itungo demanding that she reveal the location of her husband. This came after H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was announced as winner of the recently concluded presidential elections. Although the government spokesperson, Chris Baryomunsi emphasised that the government is not hunting for Bobi Wine, the Chief Of Defense forces and first son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has repeatedly insisted that the government is looking for him.
