Ugunduzi wa mfumo mpya wa kinga unaweza kutumika kutibu aina zote za saratani, wanasema wanasayansi.

Kundi hilo kutoka chuo kikuu cha Cardiff liligundua mtindo wa kutibu saratani ya tezi dume, ile ya matiti ya mapafu na aina nyingine za saratani katika vipimo vya maabara.

Matokeo yake hayajajaribiwa miongoni mwa wagonjwa lakini wanasayansi hao wanasema yana uwezo mkubwa.

Ni nini walichogundua?
Mfumo wetu wa kinga ni jinsi mwili wetu unavyoweza kujilinda dhidi ya maambukizi lakini pia unashambulia seli zilizo na saratani.
Wanasayansi hao walikuwa wakitafuta njia ambazo hazijagunduliwa kuhusu jinsi mfumo wetu wa kinga unavyoshambulia uvimbe unaosababisha saratani.
Kile walichogundua ni seli aina T ndani ya damu. Hii ni seli katika kinga ambayo inaweza kupima iwapo kuna tishio mwilini ambalo linafaa kuondolewa.

Tofauti yake ni kwamba seli hiyo inaweza kushambulia aina tofauti za saratani. Kuna fursa hapa ya kutibu kila mgonjwa, mtafiti profesa Andrew Sewell aliambia BBC.

Kundi hilo la Cardif liligundua seli aina ya T na receptor yake ambayo inaweza kugundua na kuuwa idadi kubwa ya seli za saratani katika maabara ikiwemo katika mapafu, ngozi, damu, koloni, matiti, tezi dume, mayai na shingo ya uzazi.

Kitu muhimu ni kwamba iliwacha tishu muhimu bila kuathiriwa.

Jinsi seli hiyo inavyoweza kufanya kazi hiyo ndio swala ambalo bado linakanganya.

Seli hiyo inashirikiana na molekuli kwa jina MR1, ambayo ipo katika sakafu ya kila seli ndani ya mwili wa binadamu.

Imedaiwa kwamba MR1 uharibu metaboli inayoendelea ndani ya seli ya saratani katika mfumo wa kinga.

''Sisi ndio watu wa kwanza kuelezea seli aina ya T ambayo hugundua MR1 katika seli zilizo na saratani- hilo halijawahi kufanyika - hii ni mara ya kwanza'' , mtafiti Garry Dolton aliambia BBC.

Kwanini ni muhimu?
Tiba ya saratani ya seli ya T tayari ipo na hatua ya chanjo ya saratani yamekuwa moja ya ugunduzi wa kufurahisha zaidi katika ugonjwa wa saratani.

Mfano maarufu ni ule wa CAR-T - dawa ya jeni ilioundwa kushinikiza seli ya T kushambulia ama kuharibu seli za saratani mwilini

CAR-T inaweza kuwa na matokeo ya kushangaza ambayo huwafanya baadhi ya wagonjwa kuwa wagonjwa zaidi na kusalimu amri.

Hatahivyo mtazamo huo ni wa aina yake na unafanya kazi katika aina chache za saratani ambapo lengo kuu ni kuzifunza kutafuta seli za saratani.

Na imeshindwa kuwa na mafanikio yoyote katika saratani kama vile zile zinazosababisha uvimbe badala ya zile za damu kama vile saratani ya damu.

Watafiti wanasema kwamba seli aina ya T inaweza kusababisha tiba ya saratani duniani.

Je itafanya kazi vipi iwapo itaanza kutumiwa?
Lengo ni kwamba sampuli za damu zitachukuliwa kutoka kwa mgonjwa anayeugua saratani. Seli zake aina ya T zitatolewa na baadaye kuwekwa jeni ili kuzifanya kuweza kubaini seli za saratani.

Seli hizo zitakuzwa ili kuongezeka kwa wingi katika maabara na baadaye kurudishwa katika mwili wa mwanadamu .

Ni mbinu kama hiyo inayotumiwa kutengeneza tiba ya CAR T.

Hatahivyo utafiti huo umefanyiwa majaribio katika wanyama pekee na katika seli za maabara, na vipimo salama vitahitajika kufanywa kabla ya matumizi ya mwanadamu.

Lucia Mori na Gennaro De Libero, kutoka chuo kikuu cha Basel nchini Switzerland, wanasema kwamba utafiti huo una fursa kubwa lakini ni mapema mno kusema kwamba utafanikiwa kufanyakazi katika saratani zote.
''Tunafurahi sana kuhusu kazi ya seli hiyo ya kinga na matumizi ya TCRs katika tiba ya uvimbe'' ,alisema.
Daniel Davis, ambaye ni profesa wa kinga katika chuo kikuu cha Manchester, alisema: Huu ni utafiti wa msingi na hauko karibu kupata tiba ya saratani.

''Ni wazi kwamba ni ugunduzi mzuri, utakaoendeleza maarifa yetu ya kimsingi kuhusu mfumo wa kinga na uwezekano wa dawa mpya za baadaye."

A newly discovered type of killer immune cell has raised the prospect of a "universal" cancer therapy, scientists say.

Researchers at Cardiff University suggest the new T-cell offers hope of a "one-size-fits-all" cancer therapy.

T-cell therapies for cancer - where immune cells are removed, modified and returned to the patient's blood to seek and destroy cancer cells - are the latest paradigm in cancer treatments.

The most widely used is known as CAR-T and is personalised to each patient. However, it only targets a limited number of cancers and has not been successful for solid tumours, which make up the majority of cancers.

But scientists have now discovered T-cells equipped with a new type of T-cell receptor (TCR) which recognises and kills most human cancer types, while ignoring healthy cells.

It recognises a molecule present on the surface of a wide range of cancer cells, and normal cells, and is able to distinguish between healthy and cancerous cells - killing only the latter.

yeah,my son has lymphoma,but he is doing good at the moment after 8 chemos, he is too young to have gone through all that pain, but if after all that he will be fine,the pain will be worth it.

Sorry to hear about your son. Chemo seems to be helping. At least he is doing good. Goodluck it can be beaten and he'll likely to live a full and healthy life after full/complete remission.

My collage friend was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He'd 6 month chemotherapy treatment , now he's a survivor of Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Plenty have come through with lots of good in them. May be, someone is not paying that much attention;

1) Hepatitis B.
2) Cholera
3) Pneumonicus etc etc

I think a lot of good is coming from the laboratories than in prayer rooms.

We humans, i believe with this pace, we are fast matching into an age of immortality. With each vaccine, the strength of a human body, its adaptability and chances of survival are enhanced, mortality rate capped.

Of course, the skeptical ones in the heard are always there. Actively advocating against or denying the goodness and advancement of science.

I really hope this won't be the last we hear of it. I am always reading about the discovery of these breakthroughs year after year but nothing ever comes of them.

Hopefully someday we find a treatment that is effective.

Scientific discoveries!! Well, let's wait and see cause, nowadays I hardly read these discoveries. They give more frights than help. They tell us, Do not keep water in fridges, jus imagine, here in Dar, what is the best kinywaji during the day than a cool drink from Uhai bottle? Now they say; Scientists have discovered ati kunywa maji from direct Uhai bottle will cause cancer!!
