The Uganda Prisons Service has promoted 4,996 junior officers across the country following approval by the 36th Prisons Council.

According to prisons spokesperson Frank Baine Mayanja, the promotions are part of the service’s routine promotion calendar conducted every three years, with promotions for senior officers expected soon.
The promotions were made based on available vacancies within the established prison structure and are aimed at recognising officers’ dedication, discipline, and commitment to duty.
A breakdown of the promotions shows:
• 139 promoted to Principal Officer I
• 196 promoted to Principal Officer II
• 201 promoted to Chief Warder/Wardress I
• 204 promoted to Chief Warder/Wardress II
• 432 promoted to Chief Warder/Wardress III
• 1,512 promoted to Sergeant Warder/Wardress
• 633 promoted to Corporal Warder/Wardress
• 1,679 promoted to Lance Corporal Warder/Wardress
“The Commissioner General commends all junior officers on their well-earned promotions. Their dedication, discipline and commitment to duty have been duly recognised,” Mr Baine said.
He added that officers who missed out in this cycle will be considered in the next round.
