Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni has apologised for appointing members of the opposition in his new cabinet.
Last month, Museveni named his new cabinet, which included several members of the opposition. Among them was the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC)’s Betty Amongi, Democratic Party (DP)’s Florence Nakiwaala Kiyingi and Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA)’s Beti Kamya.
During a meeting with members of the Interparty Organisation Dialogue (IPOD) last weekend, President Museveni reportedly apologised for what most people especially from the Opposition have described as political poaching.

“When our members under the auspices of IPOD met Museveni last weekend, he was put to task to explain why he is stealing members of the opposition into his cabinet and he apologised,” said the Kalungu West Member of Parliament Joseph Ssewungu.
In the meeting, Museveni also said he had information that Nakawa Division MP Michael Kabaziguruka wanted to assassinate him

“President Museveni also said he had intelligence that MP Kabaziguruka was working with some people with the intention of killing him,” added Ssewungu on Saturday while appearing Capital Gang, a political talkshow aired on Capital FM.
Kabaziguruka is currently in prison where he is being held over treason charges after he was arrested and charged along with other 22 people in Makindye Court Martial.
