The Government of Uganda has reassured citizens that the country’s fuel supply remains stable, with a major shipment set to arrive at Mombasa Port on Wednesday, 15 April. The vessel is carrying 119 million litres of petrol, a delivery expected to bolster national reserves and guarantee continued availability across Uganda.

The announcement, issued jointly by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) and the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), emphasized that supply chains are being actively managed to meet national demand. Authorities noted that Uganda’s fuel stocks are sufficient and urged the public to avoid panic buying.

Officials acknowledged that fuel prices are shaped by global market dynamics, including fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate and geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. These external pressures continue to influence international oil prices. However, the government assured Ugandans that pricing trends are being closely monitored, with measures in place to keep pump prices within “reasonable and manageable levels.”

Dr. Patricia Litho, Assistant Commissioner for Communications at MEMD, and Mr. Tony Otoa, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at UNOC, reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and stability in the energy sector. They encouraged citizens to remain calm, stressing that Uganda’s reserves are secure and supply is steady.

This latest shipment underscores Uganda’s proactive approach to safeguarding energy security amid global uncertainty. By strengthening reserves and maintaining oversight of pricing, the government aims to shield consumers from volatility while ensuring uninterrupted access to petroleum products.
