KAMPALA - Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye has been named the new Uganda Police spokesperson, replacing slain senior police officer Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

In a new reshuffle made by Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura, Kasingye will also double as the new the Chief Police Commissar.

Before Kasingye's appointment, the Director of Operations Asuman Mugyenyi was serving in acting capacity as the Force’s spokesperson.

The directorate of Interpol and International Relations, where Kasingye has been head, will be taken over by AIGP Fred Yiga.

According to a memo circulated to directors and heads of department in the police, the changes are with "immediate effect".

Kasingye becomes only the second officer at the level of Assistant Inspector General Police to take over the docket of police spokesperson after Kaweesi, whose term was cut short following his murder last week.

He was killed alongside his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and Godfrey Mambewo not far from his home in Kulambiro, Kampala.
