Two state informers have pleaded guilty to involvement in operations that led to the deaths of two people in separate bomb incidents at Munyonyo and Kalerwe in Kampala.
The two suspects, Lyavaala and Walusansa, were convicted on Monday by a court chaired by Brig. Richard Tukacungurwa after admitting prosecution facts detailing how the operations were planned and executed.
At the time, the duo was working as state informers monitoring activities of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
However, prosecution led by Lt. Regina Nanzala told court that, contrary to the intelligence they were providing to security agencies, the two were involved in facilitating the operations that resulted in the deaths of Sumaya Byaruhanga at Munyonyo on June 3, 2025, and Azatu Sawiya at Kalerwe Market on June 21, 2025.
According to the prosecution, Byaruhanga was made to carry a bag containing a bomb and was directed towards Kagwa Bridge, near Munyonyo Catholic Shrine. The device was detonated when she reached the area, killing her.
At Kalerwe Market, Sawiya was allegedly shot dead after being falsely accused of carrying a bomb.
