Two Chinese nationals arraigned over 'export' of Tanzanian notes

Two Chinese nationals, SU Ning (39) and Feny Guang Quan (51), yesterday appeared at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court charged with three counts of exporting Tanzanian currency notes to China.


The prosecution, led by Senior State Attorney Shadrack Kimaro teaming with State Attorney Estazia Wilson, claimed that the accused committed the first offence between August 15 and 31, last year, at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA).

The accused are charged contrary to Regulation 10 (a), of the Foreign Exchange Regulations (GN), number 629 of 1998 read together with Section 12 (2) (a) and (3), of the Foreign Exchange Act [cap 271 R:E 2002.

Reading the charges, Wilson alleged that on the material day the accused transported to China 10,000 notes of five hundred denominations each worth five million without a permit from the Governor of the Bank of Tanzania.
The accused are also alleged to have commited such an offence between December 22 and 31, 2015 at JNIA.

On the third count, it was alleged that on March 15, this year, at the same place, the accused were found transporting to China 40,000 notes of five hundred denomination each worth 20m/- without a permit from the governor of the Bank of Tanzania. The accused pleaded guilty to the charges.

Before the court issued a punishment to the accused the prosecution read the preliminary hearing against the accused.

Reading it, Kimaro claimed that on March 13, the accused Ning arrived in Tanzania from China with the purpose of collecting the said money and during his staying in the country he was hosted by the accused Quan. While in Tanzania, Ning gave his counterpart Quan USD 8,120 who also deposited USD8, 000 in his US Dollar account at CRDB Bank, Kariakoo branch, in Dar es Salaam.

Kimaro claimed that on March 15, this year, the accused Ning was departing to China with 20m/- cash, an amount of money which was withdrawn by the second accused from his account on March 10. On the fateful day, Ning was escorted by Quan.

The prosecutor said that Ning was arrested while in the process of checking-in at the Julius Nyerere International Airport.
The case was adjourned until today.

if the government take a more serious stance and dip its eyes on most of Chinese activities in this country,i am sure we will deport them in thousand.
 
Anyone knows the utility of that Tz currency in China to those Chinese guys? Has it now acquired convertible Forex status in China?
 
Now they flooding gambling machine/boxes every corner of Tanzania

I'm not sure if the Tanzania government benefiting from this or it's business as usual.

i think tzs doesn't have that status,and a simple question.why dealing with a small denomination?i think they had their own plan in mind
