President Donald Trump has spoken about overcoming terrorism with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The White House says Trump expressed appreciation for Kenya's contributions to the African Union Mission in Somalia during a telephone call on Tuesday with Kenyatta.
Trump also recognised the sacrifices made by Kenyan troops in the fight against al-Shabaab, the Islamic extremist group that's taken hold in neighbouring Somalia.
Somalia is one of the six Muslim-majority countries affected by Trump's new ban on travel to the US.
The White House says Trump and Kenyatta also discussed ways to boost trade between their countries, as well as investment in Kenya and the broader East Africa region.

President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke on telephone with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening where the two discussed ways to boost bilateral trade between the two nations.
A read out of the call from the White House stated that the “leaders discussed economic partnership and mutual dedication to overcoming terrorism and other regional security challenges.”
Trump also expressed appreciation for Kenya’s significant contributions to the African Union Mission in Somalia and recognized sacrifices by Kenyan troops in the fight against the Al-Shabaab.
“The two leaders discussed our economic partnership and mutual dedication to overcoming terrorism and other regional security challenges through close cooperation,” the read out stated.
The two Heads of State further discussed ways to boost investment in Kenya and the broader East Africa region.
President Kenyatta was the third leader in Africa to speak with Trump.
Last month, Trump called Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and South Africa President Jacob Zuma.
He discussed a possible new arms deal to help the West African nation fight terrorism, especially in the fight against Boko Haram.
The unrest has killed thousands and displaced more than two million people.
