US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that his administration was working with other countries to end the criminalisation of homosexuality.
Trump told the UN General Assembly in New York that American values affirmed the right of all people to live in dignity.

“We stand in solidarity with lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people who live in countries that punish, jail or execute individuals based upon sexual orientation," Trump said.

He also defended women's rights during his remarks adding that Washington was "championing the role of women in our societies."

"Nations that have empowered women are much wealthier, safer and much more politically stable," he said.

"It's therefore vital, not only to a nation's prosperity but also is vital to its national security to pursue women's economic development."

The American president also condemned open border policies pushed by activists terming them as "cruel and evil" saying that all nations had the "absolute right" to protect their borders.

“Today, I have a message for those open-border activists, who cloak themselves in the rhetoric of social justice: Your policies are not just. Your policies are cruel and evil," said Trump.

"Each of you has the absolute right to protect your borders. And so, of course, does our country," he told world leaders at the General Assembly.

On immigration, Trump said undermining border security was "undermining human rights and dignity."

"If you make it here, you will not be allowed in. You will be promptly returned home. You will not be released into our country, as long as I am President of the United States, we will enforce our laws and protect our borders."

However, in his 15 minutes speech, Trump did not touch or say anything to do with African countries.
