The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has picked the Tanzania Postal Bank (TPB) as one of its agents for collecting various domestic taxes in the country.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by TPB public relations manager Noves Moses, the bank has been added on the list of institutions commissioned by the revenue authority to collect domestic taxes. “As Tanzanians, we are all obliged to pay tax,” said the TPB official.
According to him, some Tanzanians willing to pay tax couldn’t do so on time simply because they were discouraged by long queues at TRA offices. “As a result, some of them refrained from paying tax,” she said.
She added, “Any person can pay his or her tax through the Tanzania Postal Bank, regardless of whether he or she is our customer. This will make it easier for a TPB customer who will now be able to perform his or her banking transactions as well as pay tax at a TPB branch without necessarily going to TRA offices.”
Moses said TRA collection accounts have been opened at TPB branches, meaning that tax payers will be able to deposit directly the taxes at their due time without fail. “Tanzania Postal Bank boasts of quick, convenient and efficient service to its customers,” she explained.
Moses informed that two TPB tax collection centres have been opened one at Western Union Customer service centre, and another one at Mikocheni near TRA offices.
