Africa is gearing for an economic take-off to an emerging economy status. To get there it must shed-off unnecessary baggage of laggards. These include trade and development partners in the West. A number of recent reports on African economy stop short of telling Africa to dump the West. So we ask: Is it time for Africa to ditch the West?

we are doing just that now.The question most probably is: are our leaders listening? Mugabe only chest thumbs. Moi actually did away with the West for nearly 10 years. And that is why kenya, under a new management, learnt how to mobilise domestic resources for her own development, Kenya's $13 bn budget is funded by local resources up to 94 per cent. We expect Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, South sudan among others to soon stand on their own feet due to discovery of oil and related energy resources. yes, there are people who can tell the story.
 
It's been time to ditch the west and now with the china trade rate growing on average 30% a year it won't be long before the west takes a complete back seat.
