The Parliamentary Committee on Lands has handed over three officials and three security guards from the Mukono Zonal Land Office to authorities for questioning over the alleged removal of land files from the office ahead of a scheduled inspection.
The committee, led by Ntoroko MP Edson Rugumayo, took action after several land files were found outside the zonal office during its inspection.
Some of the files were reportedly recovered from a nearby shop, while others were found in a vehicle belonging to one of the staff members.
The officials were questioned about why the files had been removed from the office and where they were being kept.
However, the officials reportedly gave different explanations for moving the documents, raising concerns among committee members about the management and security of land records.
The committee is expected to scrutinise the circumstances under which the files were removed and establish whether the movement of the records was authorised.
The incident has also raised questions about the security of land records at the Mukono Zonal Land Office, amid growing concerns over the integrity and management of land transactions.
