A teacher at Kiserian Primary School in Kajiado County has been arrested after he allegedly caned his pupil to death.

Loise Wanjiru, 11, was pronounced dead at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi Monday, May 23.

It is alleged that Dickson Isidi administered corporal punishment on the Standard Six pupil; before pushing her against the wall, leading to her collapse.

KSh40 tuition fee, that the girl had not paid, is what led to receiving countless strokes of the cane from the irate teacher.

George Seda – the OCPD of Ngong area – confirmed the incident.

He says Mr Isidi rushed the deceased to St. Mary’s Church Medical Center before the facility referred her to Kenyatta National Hospital for urgent care.

Police have since launched investigations into the girl’s death.

Mr Isidi has already recorded a statement at Kiserian Police Station where he is being held.

Residents protest

Enraged Kiserian residents ganged up and went to the school in protest, demanding to “teach the callous teacher a lesson”.

Police’s swift intervention saved the life of Mr Isidi from the infuriated protestors.

Kajiado North lawmaker Joseph Manje assured the residents that the case will be investigated to conclusion.

“This is not a small matter and considering that the government had banned corporal punishment on students, I want this case to be investigated to its conclusion. We want to see her postmortem report so the police can determine the direction of the case at hand,” said the legislator.
