Tanzanian diplomat Stephen Patrick Mbundi has been appointed the new Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), where he will serve a five-year term leading the regional bloc’s secretariat.
Mbundi replaces Veronica Mueni Nduva of Kenya, a governance professional who has been serving as the Secretary General of the regional organisation.
Before his appointment, Mbundi served as the Permanent Secretary for EAC Affairs in Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. In that role, he was responsible for coordinating Tanzania’s engagement with the regional bloc and overseeing matters related to regional integration.
