• Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda have previously accused Tanzania of being an obstacle to the development of the East African Community, an allegation President Jakaya Kikwete countered by saying the three countries are fond of making decisions at the EAC without consulting other members.

Mobile phone users will wait longer for lower calling rates within East Africa after the late inclusion of Tanzania and Burundi into talks, which has delayed the introduction of the cheaper tariffs by nine months to June.

Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda had agreed to cap the maximum roaming charges in the three states at about Sh8.80 ($0.10) per minute beginning this month, which had the potential to significantly reduce the cost of doing business in the region. South Sudan was set to sign the agreement later in the year.

Calling Uganda or Rwanda from Kenya currently costs between Sh17 and Sh25, with the high tariffs being caused partly by taxes. Tanzania and Burundi were not part of the earlier deal because they had missed a number of talks that led to the pact.

Ukisoma hii thread utagundua kwa nini we have a long way to go to achieve a fully and democratic EAC. Hivi kweli do you really expect Tanzania ikubali Protocol ambayo hailindi maslahi yake? Last time I checked US refused to sign Kyoto Protocal based on similar reasons. US, Russia et al refused to sign the Rome Statute establishing the ICC for same reasons. Please people grow up. Countries Need and Must take care of their interests FIRST. Not otherwise.

If Kenya or Rwanda or Uganda..is doing so and so..its because they believe what they do serves well their interests. Not otherwise. So why do you want Tanzania to sacrifice its interests for the sake of pleasing other peoples?

By the way most people writing are hypocrites. Last time I checked Kenya was a member of IGAD, COMESA and EAC. Same as Uganda..why is it that its never mentioned anywhere? Yes, Tanzania is a member of SADC and EAC. So what is the problem? Is it the first country in EAC block to belong to more than one regional organization? Ofcourse not. But these people..so called writers..are hellbent to misinform the public! na kuonyesha kwamba Tanzania haiko committed to EAC.

Yes, there are things I do not agree with my government. But again, thats what we call democracy. As for Rwanda, Kenya or Uganda. Guys do your things. Have you heard Tanzania criticing Kagame for locking up/killing of his opponents? Have you heard Tanzania criticizing what Kenya is doing on various front? Though most of these things go against the EAC Treaty? In fact Museven wants to run for another term (is now locking up and killing those with different views or likley to oppose him), Kagame is considering the same route..mmesikia Tanzania wakilalamika? It is becaus we know and believe that..what happens in Rwanda is for Rwandans, same in Kenya or Uganda.

In short, while some of us are supporters of integration, it is this kind of utter hypocricy from some of our colleagues in these countries which make us believe that..wenzetu mna lenu jambo na wala si kupenda shirikisho la kindugu!

..IMHO, I think it is SADC members who should complain about Tanzania being the member of EAC. First, because EAC imekuwa-established after SADC. SADC tuna share economic relation and blood relation. EAC tuna share economic relation and minimal blood relations. Wapi unadhani tutavutika napo!?.
