UVCCM wanajaribu kuficha maovu wakati yametendeka hadharani! Hapana! Acheni unafiki wanaccm wenzangu! Pale penye ukweli tusidanganye ili kuwafurahisha viongozi bali tusimamie ukweli! Kwani mkiwa wakweli na kukemea ule ujinga wa UVCCM ZANZIBAR mtapata dhambi? Acheni maisha ya kukipendekeza ili baadae mpewe ukuu wa wilaya kama Makonda! Fanyeni kazi na kama hamtafanya kazi 2017 sio mbali ntakua nimekalia hicho kiti na ntakachofanya hamtakisahau!

We, from a small island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean offer our greetings, and wish to express our admiration for your people-based approach to the problems of this world.

Zanzibar has had a long history of trade and inter-cultural relations between different peoples and religions that have been based on not merely tolerance but respect for different cultures and religions for hundreds of years.

When a Christian missionary asked the Sultan of Zanzibar in 1840 for permission to build a Christian mission in his territory, the Muslim Sultan described him as a ‘man of God who wants to spread the word of God.’

WhenZanzibar achieved its independence in 1963, the highest denomination of its commemorative stamp was on the theme of religious tolerance, showing the Catholic and Anglican cathedrals, a Sunni and Shia mosque, and a Hindu temple, which have co-existed within stone’s throw of each other without religious tensions and conflicts.

We are sorry to say that this long tradition has begun to crack, but the reasons very often are not religious but political disempowerment and deprivation of our
inalienable rights. The case in point is the recent election on 25th October, 2015.

Even apologists of the ruling party now admit that the Civic United Front has won every election since the restoration of the multi-party system in 1995, but it has never been allowed to rule.

In this year’s election, every election observer team had concluded that the election was peaceful, free and fair; but when it appeared that the ruling party was losing – and the results are widely known - its Zanzibar Electoral Commission Chairman appointed by the ruling party’s President abruptly and unconstitutionally annulled the election.

Instead of taking a corrective action against this illegality, the Union Government where the ruling party has won has been supporting the Zanzibar state with its police and armed forces threatening dire action.

Zanzibar is a predominantly Muslim country, so there is not a religious divide at all, but failure by the people to achieve their democratic rights through the ballot after 20 years of elections may drive some discontented youths to extra-democratic paths of which our world is seeing too much of these days.

It is for these reasons that we appeal to Your Holliness to exercise your considerable moral influence over the Tanzanian Government to arrest this sense of hopelessness and helplessness before it is too late.

It has been three weeks since the elections were held, and economic activities are coming to a haltamong people gripped in fear and foreboding about the future of their country, which may damage our long tradition of inter-cultural and inter-religious harmony.

UVCCM tumesikitishwa na tunalaani vikali kitendo kilichofanywa na vyama vya siasa vya kuunganisha picha za wana-CCM watiifu na kuwanasibisha na maneno ambayo hayana uhusiano nao tofauti na maudhui ya ujumbe uliokusudiwa, kitendo hicho kilikuwa na nia ya kutaka kuwagawa na kuwafarakanisha wana-CCM kwa kisingizio cha ukabila
