Soroti University has officially commissioned its new main gate, a project costing Shs1.2 billion. This modern gate is equipped with several advanced features including CCTV cameras, solar power, access-control systems, and comprehensive security facilities. It also features disability-friendly walkways, ensuring accessibility for all.
The project, constructed by NHCC, commenced in September 2025 and was successfully completed in May 2026.
The project was initially scheduled for completion within six months, but the university said election-related issues caused delays and resulted in an extension of the completion period.
During the commissioning ceremony on September 25, 2026, university officials said the contractor had received approximately sh1.1b, representing 88.3% of the total contract sum, while the remaining amount would be paid after identified defects had been rectified.
Eng. Paul Anguria, the deputy chief estates officer at Soroti University, said the project was intended to create a modern, secure and functional main entrance while facilitating controlled access for vehicles and pedestrians.
